Building A Winning Team Video

TO KNOW THAT WE KNOW WHAT WE KNOW, AND THAT WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT WE DO NOT KNOW, THAT IS TRUE KNOWLEDGE

DAVID HENRY THOREAU

KEY FACTOR:

Tests in the form of oral and/or written quizzes take time to develop, time to administer, time to grade, and time to go over with the employee. But finding out how much of the material presented is understood and retained is vital when developing your employees. Without the “evaluation” portion of the training process, one can’t expect to achieve the results that the training is designed to give. Testing employees on the materials they just studied will demonstrate that you place importance in the subject of the training. It also assists you in making the point that learning, not just showing up for the training, is required for them to be paid and to be able to attend and/or view future training opportunities. Attendance or viewing by itself does not mean the employee has learned anything. It is important to let employees know before they watch a video or attend a meeting seminar that you will be giving them a written quiz at the conclusion to be certain they were actively in the learning mode and not just passing time.

ACTION ITEM:

Put together a written or oral quiz about a seminar topic that you are presenting or use the quizzes that have been prepared for Rags to Riches seminars. Keep your questions simple and use multiple choice answers. This will make the testing process more rapid and less intimidating to the employee. Testing the employee will also help them to remember the information longer.

IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS:

Administer a test to all people who have attended a seminar meeting or watched a video outside of the office. Score the tests. If it is in a meeting setting then have the employees exchange papers to score or let the employee score it themselves. That would be the best way for the employee to learn from their mistakes and we do hope we can trust our employees to be honest. Gather the test scores and keep them in the employee’s file. Send the test with the employee so they have it for future reference.
